IRA Honor Council

Deadline: October 15
Overview: The Honor Council Program annually recognizes local and special interest councils that organize and conduct well-rounded programs serving the council members, the community, the state/provincial association or affiliate, and the International Reading Association. The requirements for this award are to be completed between April 1 of one year and March 1 of the next.

Eligibility: In order to qualify for Honor Council status, the council must be in good standing according to IRA Bylaws. Specifically, the council must demonstrate that (a) all council officers are members of the International Literacy Association, and (b) at least 10 council members are also members of the International Reading Association. Council officers for the year may be counted in this total.

Deadlines: The “Intent to Participate” form must be postmarked no later than October 15. All documented data must be postmarked no later than March 1. However, councils may submit the information to IRA Headquarters any time prior to the deadline—and are encouraged to do so. (The earlier, the better.)

Now available: Online, interactive "Intent to Participate" form. Council leaders may enter information online and click "submit." Deadline is December 31.
