Programs: Early Childhood and Elementary Education
Graduate Course Offering: EDUC 5233 Survey of Teaching Reading


At ECU, undergraduate candidates must complete a minimum of four courses specifically designed for literacy development including the five pillars of reading. Teacher candidates partner with area schools to offer tutoring and reading intervention.

Cameron University in Lawton, Duncan, & Claremore

Programs: Early Childhood & Elementary Education, Graduate Program: Reading Specialist, Graduate Program: Education
Cameron offers in-person, online, and flex classes for undergraduate degrees in education. The graduate programs are fully online. The Reading Specialist program can be completed in one year (starting in the spring); the program consists of eleven 8-week courses (5 in the spring, 2 in the summer, and 4 in the fall).

Programs: Elementary Education and English Education
The courses OPSU has that involve teacher preparation and literacy are EDUC 3313 -- Foundations of Reading Instruction, EDUC 3233 -- Methods and Materials of Elementary Reading, EDUC 2623 Children's Literature, EDUC 2323 -- Reading in the Content Area, and EDUC 3253 -- Diagnostics and Prescriptive Teaching of Reading.
OPSU also offers several online courses for alternative certification along with Credly badges for those classes upon completion. ​
